Lower Township, NJ — From August 28 to 31, Cape May Airport will host AirFest 2025, a thrilling celebration of aviation history featuring rare and iconic aircraft that defined military flight. Headlining the event is the legendary Messerschmitt Me 262, the world’s first operational jet fighter. This groundbreaking plane reshaped aerial warfare in World War II with speeds exceeding 500 mph, decades ahead of Allied propeller aircraft.
Alongside it, visitors will witness the “Whistling Death” Goodyear FG-1D Corsair, famed for its distinctive dive sound and fierce role in the Pacific theater. The C-53 “Beach City Baby,” a beautifully restored WWII transport plane with original interiors, will offer an immersive glimpse into wartime airlift missions. Also joining are the bright yellow SNJ/AT-6 Texan trainer (instrumental in preparing thousands of pilots) and the rare Japanese Fuji LM-1 “Nikko,” a Cold War-era gem seldom seen in U.S. skies. Beyond aircraft, AirFest features dynamic fly-ins, hands-on activities, food vendors, and exhibits hosted by the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum inside historic Hangar 1. The museum honors the 42 aviators who trained at the site during WWII. This four-day event runs daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering an unforgettable experience for aviation fans and families alike.
