
Wildwood, N.J. – A 21-year-old Bridgeton man is in custody after police say he was seen displaying an assault-style rifle from a car window in Wildwood. The incident occurred on May 21, prompting a joint investigation between the Wildwood Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Surveillance video reviewed by investigators allegedly showed Ahmed Omera displaying the weapon from the driver’s side of a vehicle. Omera was identified through the footage, and a search warrant was executed at his home on the 300 block of West Broad Street in Bridgeton on May 22. Authorities say he was taken into custody without incident, and a weapon matching the description in the video was recovered from the residence.
The arrest operation involved the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bridgeton Police Department. Omera is charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending a detention hearing. The investigation remains active.
