Atlantic City, New Jersey – If you notice smoke or a sudden surge in emergency vehicles near Atlantic City International Airport this weekend, there’s no need for concern — it’s all part of a scheduled emergency drill. A full-scale emergency preparedness exercise will take place at ACY on Saturday, May 17, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The airport will remain fully operational throughout the drill, which is designed to evaluate emergency response procedures in the event of a large-scale aircraft incident. The training is mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration every three years and aims to improve communication and coordination between federal, state, county, and local agencies. Residents in Galloway, Hamilton, and Egg Harbor Townships — where the airport is located — may see simulated smoke or hear sirens during the drill. Increased emergency response activity is expected, particularly along Tilton Road and near the airport circle by the Federal Aviation Administration's technical center. The Atlantic City International Airport spans 5,000 acres and served over one million passengers in 2024. It is also home to the 177th Fighter Wing and the Atlantic City Air National Guard Base. Officials are urging the public not to be alarmed by any unusual sights or sounds during the exercise. The drill is a routine, but vital, part of maintaining safety and preparedness at the airport.
