ATLANTIC COUNTY, N.J. — The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has launched the County of Atlantic Reduction and Enforcement (CARE) program to combat a rise in fatal motor vehicle crashes. This initiative combines increased traffic enforcement and educational outreach to promote safer driving behaviors. During its initial operation, law enforcement officers conducted 111 vehicle stops and issued 71 summonses across Absecon, Atlantic City, and Galloway Township. Safety information was distributed to motels along Route 30 to raise awareness among residents and visitors.
The program addresses a troubling increase in fatal crashes in Atlantic County, with 58 recorded in 2024—the second highest number in New Jersey. CARE aims to reduce fatalities by enhancing visibility, encouraging accountability, and educating drivers on safer choices. To honor those lost in fatal crashes, the Prosecutor’s Office will host a Saint Christopher’s Mass at 10:30 a.m. on July 23 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon. Those interested can register by searching “Saint Christopher’s Mass Absecon” on Eventbrite.
