Avalon, N.J. -- Bay Park Marina and its boat ramp remain open to the public as construction progresses, despite earlier setbacks from emergency bridge repairs on Avalon Boulevard. The county’s work on the island’s main entry point delayed heavy equipment deliveries, pausing the marina project. Construction halted for the holiday weekend but has since resumed, allowing boat slip owners to launch their vessels while upgrades continue. The new bulkhead at the marina is now complete, marking a key milestone. To bypass restrictions on Avalon Boulevard, the contractor used a barge to deliver a crane to the site, keeping the project on track. Meanwhile, the contractor awaits county approval to bring heavy equipment for a back-passing project, which will transfer sand from mid-borough beaches to replenish eroded northern areas. Weight limits on the 96th Street bridge in Stone Harbor have compounded access challenges, making Avalon Boulevard the sole route for heavy machinery. A new movable span bridge to ease these constraints isn’t expected until at least 2028. For now, Avalon’s marina continues to serve boaters while balancing construction and community access, ensuring the waterfront remains a hub for locals and visitors alike.
