Cape May and Atlantic Counties Open Cooling Centers to Provide Relief Amid Heatwave

Cape May and Atlantic Counties, N.J. In response to soaring temperatures across southern New Jersey, Cape May and Atlantic Counties have activated multiple cooling centers to ensure residents have safe, air-conditioned locations to escape the heat. Cape May County is offering cooling centers primarily through its network of senior centers and recreation facilities. Among the confirmed locations open as of June 24 are the North Wildwood Recreation Center at 900 Central Avenue in North Wildwood and the Lower Cape Senior Center at 2612 Bayshore Road in Villas. Additional senior centers in North Wildwood, Ocean City, and Upper Township are also operating during regular business hours, providing air-conditioned environments to vulnerable populations and the public. Atlantic County has designated several public libraries as cooling centers during their normal operating hours. Libraries in Absecon, Egg Harbor Township, Mays Landing, Pleasantville, and Somers Point are welcoming residents seeking relief from the heat. These locations offer a safe and cool environment, along with access to library services. Officials remind residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and regularly check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors.
