Cape May City Council approved a $28 million general fund budget for 2025, keeping the local purpose tax rate unchanged for the fifth consecutive year. No public comments were made during the May 20 budget hearing, which Mayor Zach Mullock said reflected satisfaction with the steady tax rate. The budget also includes $13.5 million in appropriations for three self-sustaining utilities funded by user fees: $7.6 million for Water and Sewer, $4.3 million for the Beach Utility, and $1.6 million for Tourism. The $10.9 million property tax levy is the lowest in Cape May County relative to total appropriations. The local purpose tax rate remains at $0.361, meaning a homeowner with a $750,000 assessed property will owe $2,707 in municipal taxes.
