Cape May County School Superintendents’ Salaries Total Nearly $2 Million in 2024-25

Cape May County, NJ — The combined base salaries for the 13 school district superintendents in Cape May County for the 2024-2025 school year approach $2 million, according to district budget documents. The median base salary for these positions is $155,000—significantly below New Jersey’s state median of $193,800. Salaries range from a high of $208,350 for David Salvo of Middle Township to a low of $130,000 for Carleena Supp in Woodbine. Additional compensation such as retirement plan enhancements, stipends, and bonuses can increase total remuneration. Ocean City’s budget reflected an interim superintendent’s salary; its new superintendent, Christian Angelillo, will earn $210,000 starting 2025-2026. New Jersey ranks among states with the highest superintendent pay nationally. While a salary cap was imposed between 2011 and 2019, it was lifted under Governor Phil Murphy to address recruitment and retention challenges. The cap initially limited salaries to $175,000, with exceptions for large districts, charter, vocational, and special education schools. Cape May County has 13 superintendent roles, with three shared between districts—Stone Harbor/Avalon, Cape May/West Cape May, and the county’s special services and technical school districts. Of the county’s 16 municipalities, three do not operate schools directly and instead pay tuition to other districts. The county’s 16 operating districts run 31 schools, including five high schools: one technical and four traditional public high schools. Total student enrollment for 2024-2025 is approximately 12,000 based on district budget data.
