Cape May County, NJ – Starting this Saturday, May 10, Cape May County will transition to cashless tolling on its five bridges. The Cape May County Bridge Commission reassures drivers that this change will be smooth and cause minimal disruption. In fact, they believe drivers who previously paid cash will find the new system easier. For the estimated 80% of drivers already using E-ZPass, there will be no noticeable change. The $2.50 toll will continue to be automatically deducted from E-ZPass accounts as drivers pass through the tolls. For those who don’t use E-ZPass, the toll-by-plate system will now be in place. As these drivers pass through the tolls, a photo of their license plate will be taken. The Bridge Commission will use this photo to send a bill to the registered owner of the vehicle. If the bill isn’t paid on time, a $5 late fee will be added to the second bill. If the second bill is left unpaid, a $50 violation fee will be charged for each unpaid toll. Additionally, discounted tickets for the Ocean Drive tolls, sold at $1.20 each until 2018, will no longer be accepted starting May 10. However, drivers can return unused tickets for a refund within 60 days of the transition. For more details, drivers can contact the Bridge Commission at 609-465-7806.
