ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Two major firefighter unions have announced their support for Mayor Marty Small as he seeks re-election, pointing to his track record of improving public safety and standing with first responders. The Atlantic City Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 8 and the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association endorsed Small, crediting him with restoring civil service protections, upgrading fire equipment, and improving staffing levels. They say he helped repair years of setbacks that followed the state’s financial control of the city, which resulted in layoffs and pay cuts across emergency services.
Under his leadership, firehouses have been renovated and resources for emergency crews have been improved. Union leaders say these changes have helped better prepare the city’s first responders to protect the community. Last month, the city’s police union also endorsed Small. The back-to-back endorsements mark a strong show of support from those on the front lines of public safety. As he campaigns for another term, Small has pledged to continue backing police officers and firefighters with better pay, safer working conditions, and more reliable tools to do their jobs.
