AVALON, N.J. — Campers at Avalon’s Surfside Kids program got a surprise on Wednesday when a medical helicopter landed on the athletic field at Avalon Elementary School as part of a hands-on safety and emergency demonstration. The helicopter visit, organized in partnership with AtlantiCare and JeffSTAT, gave children a rare opportunity to see the aircraft up close. Staff from the flight crew answered questions and shared how the air medical unit supports emergency response across the region. The visit was part of an immersive field trip that also included a walk-through of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department. Organizers say the event aimed to combine summer fun with safety education, giving campers a glimpse into how first responders handle critical situations. The Surfside Kids Camp is one of Avalon’s signature summer programs, offering themed weeks of outdoor learning, games, and community engagement for local youth.
