CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Zoo welcomed a new female Grant’s zebra foal on June 12, the second foal sired this year by stallion Ziggy and the third for mare Gretta. The young female has been successfully integrated with the herd and can be identified by a small spot on her left cheek. Visitors can observe the foal and her sibling playing and running together during zoo hours. Grant’s zebras are a subspecies of plains zebras native to central and eastern Africa. Their herds typically consist of one stallion, multiple mares, and their offspring, who communicate through body language and movements. The synchronized breeding cycles of plains zebras help improve foal survival in the wild. The Cape May County Zoo is free and open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with park hours from 7 a.m. until dusk. More information is available at www.cmczoo.com.
