New Jersey Primary Election Set for June 10: Key Voting Details and Deadlines

NEW JERSEY – Voters across New Jersey will head to the polls on June 10 to select the Democratic and Republican nominees who will compete in the November gubernatorial election to replace term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy. This year’s primary features a crowded field, with six Democrats and five Republicans vying for their party’s nomination. New Jersey operates a closed primary system, meaning voters must be registered with a party to vote in that party’s primary. Unaffiliated voters can still participate in ballot questions.
The voter registration deadline has passed, but important upcoming dates include June 3 as the last day to request a mail-in ballot by mail, and June 9 for in-person mail ballot requests. Early in-person voting runs from June 3 through June 8 at county locations with no appointment required.
Polls open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day, with voters in line by 8 p.m. allowed to cast their ballots. Voters should verify their polling locations through the New Jersey Department of State’s online tool.
Mail ballots must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on June 10 and received by June 16 to count, or returned in person by election day. Most voters do not need ID unless they did not verify identity when registering.
New Jersey allows most people with felony convictions to vote as long as they are not currently incarcerated. Assistance is available for voters with disabilities or language needs at polling places.
Results will be unofficial on election night, with official counts potentially extending to June 16 or later due to mail ballot processing.
