NJMVC to Offer Emergency REAL IDs for Urgent Travel Needs

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) announced that it will offer emergency REAL ID services to eligible individuals who need to board a domestic flight within 14 days for urgent reasons or life-or-death situations and lack an acceptable form of identification to pass TSA checkpoints. Starting Thursday, customers who meet the criteria can schedule appointments to obtain an emergency REAL ID at the NJMVC’s Trenton Regional Center.
The process will include a screening, and appointments will be scheduled based on availability, with no guarantee of accommodation. To qualify, applicants must submit documentation explaining their need for an emergency appointment and meet the eligibility requirements for REAL ID issuance, such as providing proof of residence, Social Security number, and other identity documents.
A fee of $80 will apply for expedited shipping of the REAL ID. The new emergency service comes as the state prepares for the upcoming enforcement of federal REAL ID regulations starting May 7, which will require a REAL ID to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.
