Project X "Pop-Up" Party Plans in Wildwood Investigated

CAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J. — The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Wildwood Police Department are investigating a social media post promoting an alleged "Pop-Up" party, referred to as "Project X," planned for Wildwood this upcoming season. Authorities say the event has not been approved or sanctioned by local officials, prompting concerns about public safety and community disruption.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy issued a joint statement outlining their efforts to address the situation. They emphasized that unsanctioned gatherings pose risks, including crowd control challenges, potential violence, and strain on law enforcement resources. Police say they are working to identify those behind the promotion and plan to use all legal measures to prevent the event from occurring. The statement highlighted a commitment to protecting residents, visitors, and officers from any illegal activities tied to such gatherings.

Authorities noted that similar unsanctioned events have caused issues in Jersey Shore towns in recent years, often leading to overcrowding, drug use, public disturbances, and confrontations. Wildwood enforces a 10 p.m. curfew for juveniles, and police say they will hold legal guardians accountable if their children are found out past that time without supervision. New authority allows charges against parents or guardians in such cases. The investigation remains ongoing as officials aim to maintain order and safety in the community ahead of the season.
