SEA ISLE CITY, NJ — Construction on Sea Isle City's new $21 million community center continues to progress, with the completion expected in the fall. The facility, located at 4501 Park Road, is beginning to take shape, with the installation of exterior windows and ongoing work on the roof. Katherine Custer, the city's director of community services, provided an update on the project, stating that the exterior is nearing completion. “It’s really looking good. The contractor has started installing windows and continuing work on the roof, so the building will soon be sealed from the elements,” Custer said. The community center is being built on the site of the former Sea Isle City School, which closed more than a decade ago. The school had served as a temporary police station after Superstorm Sandy in 2012, while a new public safety building and City Hall were constructed. Construction on the community center began a little over a year ago, and the first phase of the project involved installing more than 500 pilings. The general contractor overseeing the construction is Ernest Bock & Sons, a Philadelphia-based company. Once completed, the center will include a gymnasium with an NBA-sized basketball court and an elevated walking/running track. Custer is enthusiastic about the center’s future offerings, saying, “We have a lot of exciting programs planned, including familiar ones as well as new activities that we believe will be popular.” Residents have been eagerly awaiting the completion of the facility, which is expected to serve as a hub for community events and activities.
