SOMERS POINT, N.J. — Shore Medical Center has been named a national leader in diabetes care by the Leapfrog Group and the American Diabetes Association. The hospital is one of roughly 36 nationwide to receive this designation, and the only one in South Jersey recognized for its diabetes patient care. The recognition comes after a thorough evaluation of the hospital’s care practices for patients with diabetes, focusing on treatment during admission, inpatient care, and discharge planning. The program follows standards set by the ADA and Leapfrog for hospital safety and quality. Hospitals caring for people with diabetes face particular challenges due to the increased risks of medical errors and infections. Shore Medical Center was acknowledged for implementing protocols such as blood glucose testing, management of hypoglycemia, specialized preparation for surgery, meal and insulin planning, and detailed discharge processes for diabetic patients. The award reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality care tailored to the needs of people living with diabetes.
