Somers Point, New Jersey – Shore Medical Center has named Sara Garces-Cano, a nurse on the 5 Hayes unit, as its May Guardian Angel of the Month in recognition of her outstanding patient care. The Guardian Angel program allows patients and community members to show appreciation for exceptional caregivers by making a donation in their honor to the hospital. Garces-Cano, a dedicated nurse since joining Shore in 2016 as a nurse aide, has continually advanced her nursing career, earning her registered nurse certification in 2018 and a bachelor’s in nursing in 2022. Kelly Duma, manager of the 5 Hayes unit, praised Garces-Cano for her leadership and commitment to both her patients and colleagues. She regularly takes on the charge nurse role and enjoys mentoring new nurses. Garces-Cano, who lives in Egg Harbor Township with her husband and two children, was recently honored by a patient who made a Guardian Angel donation on her behalf, sharing how Garces-Cano’s compassion and care made a lasting impact during a difficult time.
