Scammers are targeting South Jersey residents following Joann Fabrics' recent announcement of bankruptcy and store closures. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), fraudulent websites are mimicking legitimate "going out of business" sales, featuring fake Joann Fabrics branding and offering steep discounts of 80-90% on products. These websites appear convincing, with familiar merchandise and enticing promotions, but they are designed to steal personal and financial information. Joann Fabrics has warned customers through social media that their online shopping platform is no longer active, and the official website remains at joann.com, not the suspicious URLs being used by scammers. The BBB Scam Tracker has received more than 200 reports of these fake sites, and the fraudulent deals are a clear attempt to deceive customers into providing sensitive information. Local shoppers in South Jersey are urged to be cautious and avoid clicking on suspicious ads or links. Always verify the website's URL with a quick search, and if a deal seems too good to be true, it likely is. The BBB recommends using credit cards for online purchases, as they offer better fraud protection than debit cards.
