VINELAND, N.J. — A Superior Court judge has ordered Butch’s Gun World in Vineland to implement strict controls over its firearms and ammunition sales after state investigators found the store sold AR-15 ammunition and related products to undercover buyers without checking any identification or permits. The ruling, issued in summary judgment, states that Butch’s Gun World lacked any system to verify customers’ legal eligibility and failed to comply with New Jersey’s Firearms Industry Public Safety Law.
Under the court order, the gun shop is required to:
- Sell firearms and related products only to purchasers with valid New Jersey permits or to licensed firearms businesses.
- Collect and retain written records documenting every sales verification process, and submit these to state officials for three years.
- Display detailed compliance policies for employees and conduct mandatory training on these requirements.
The judge’s order follows a lawsuit filed after state undercover agents made multiple unverified purchases. The case enforces legislation adopted in 2022, which requires all firearms industry vendors in New Jersey to maintain systems preventing illegal sales.
