ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Garfield Bennett, 57, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, was arrested Wednesday after police caught him attempting to sell stolen musical instruments on the streets of Atlantic City. Bennett is charged with burglary and theft following the theft of a custom purple sparkle baritone Telecaster guitar and a vintage 1966 Gibson mandolin from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino last weekend. The instruments belonged to the rock band Heart and were set up ahead of their concert at the venue. Surveillance footage showed Bennett carrying the instruments and trying to sell them around town. Police say one instrument was sold, but the other remains missing. Atlantic City police say the video evidence made the arrest quick and decisive. Bennett was taken into custody and faces charges that could lead to serious penalties. Authorities are urging anyone who may have information or possession of the missing instrument to contact the police immediately.
