VENTNOR, NJ – The Carisbrooke Inn, a local bed-and-breakfast, is suing the city of Ventnor, alleging unlawful charges for water and sewer services based on the number of units in the building. The lawsuit, filed on March 13, claims that the inn was charged nine separate $750 fixed fees in 2024, when it should have only been billed once. The suit argues that Ventnor's ordinances define a customer or consumer as a single entity contracting for water and sewer service, regardless of the number of units within a building. City officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Carisbrooke Inn paid $60.27 per water unit, while a residential property on Boardwalk paid only $10.78, the lawsuit notes. The bed-and-breakfast is seeking a refund for the overcharged fees.
