>>Texas Becomes “Blexas” After Tuesday Elections
(Austin, TX) — The red state of Texas has shifted blue. Voters on social media are calling the state Blexas, for Blue Texas, after Democrats swept major seats in Tuesday’s midterms. Democrat Gina Hinojosa pulled a major upset by defeating Republican Governor Greg Abbott, and will be the first Democratic governor of Texas in over 30 years. She will also be the state’s first Hispanic governor. In another high-profile race, James Talarico beat Republican Ken Paxton to become the state’s first Democratic senator in 33 years.
>>Becerra Wins Governor’s Race
(Sacramento, CA) — Democrat Xavier Becerra [[ HAH-vee-air beh-SEH-ruh ]] has won the race for governor of California. He gave a victory speech at his campaign headquarters in Sacramento Tuesday night, telling supporters it was a great night to be a Californian. The Los Angeles mayor’s race, meanwhile, is still too close to call. With many votes left to count, City Councilwoman Nithya Raman has taken a tiny lead over incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. It’s likely the race won’t be decided for some time as Los Angeles County often takes a long time to count all the votes.
