United flight returns to Los Angeles for emergency landing after suffering engine issue

March 2 (Reuters) – A United Airlines flight made an emergency landing on Monday shortly after departing Los Angeles after suffering an engine issue, forcing passengers on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to deplane on a taxiway, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The FAA said United Airlines Flight 2127 – which was bound for Newark Liberty International Airport – returned safely to Los Angeles around 2:20 p.m. ET.

The FAA briefly issued a ground stop at Los Angeles as a result of the incident and after lifting it said there would be continuing arrival delays of up to 30 minutes due to the incident.

CBS Los Angeles said fire crews appeared to hose off its left engine and video posted on social media showed smoke coming from the engine.

Passengers deplaned via slides and airstairs and were bused to the terminal, United said, adding that there were no reported injuries. There were 256 passengers and 12 crew onboard.
