(Edmonton) — Alberta will remain part of Canada after voters there overwhelmingly rejected efforts at independence. Preliminary results show more than three-quarters of the province’s voters oppose moving forward with a referendum for separation from Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney said that “Albertans made a clear choice. They chose unity, to build together, and to take care of each other.” Alberta is central to Canada’s oil and gas industry and proponents of independence argue the province is often overlooked by Ottawa.
