Attacks and counter attacks in Iran

(SRN NEWS) – The U.S. military says it launched a major wave of strikes against Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz after an Iranian Revolutionary Guard missile attack damaged a commercial cargo ship.

According to U.S. Central Command, the Cyprus-flagged container vessel suffered a fire and significant engine-room damage, leaving it unable to continue its voyage. One civilian crew member remains missing.

In response, American forces struck roughly 140 Iranian targets using precision-guided munitions fired from aircraft, drones, and naval vessels. Targets included radar systems, missile and drone storage facilities, launch sites, and air-defense assets.

CENTCOM says the operation was intended to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.

The latest fighting comes after the Trump administration demanded that Iran guarantee safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard declared the waterway closed after the cargo ship incident, claiming the vessel ignored warnings to alter course.

Iran has also launched drones and missiles toward Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan in retaliation.

Despite Tehran’s claims, President Trump and U.S. military officials insist the Strait of Hormuz remains open to international shipping.
