Iran Considering ‘Concrete’ Nuclear Proposals in Doha Peace Talks

By The Media Line Staff

Iran is reviewing proposals from mediators concerning its nuclear program as negotiations continue in Doha over ending the war, five officials, including an American and two Iranians, told The New York Times, raising the possibility of progress toward an agreement.

The officials characterized the terms under consideration as “concrete proposals” but did not disclose their contents or explain which aspects of Iran’s nuclear activities they address.

Qatari officials are mediating the negotiations in Doha and have also recently held discussions with Iranian representatives in Armenia, according to sources familiar with the diplomatic efforts.

Vice President JD Vance has backed Qatar’s attempts to prevent a resumption of hostilities, three of the officials said.

The diplomatic developments follow an initiative by Vance last month to establish direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

In a letter addressed to Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Vance proposed direct peace talks that would include discussions about Iran’s nuclear program.

Rezaei subsequently characterized the American approach as a change in Washington’s position toward Tehran, describing the letter as evidence of the “Iranian nation’s strength and victory.”

The negotiations are taking place following congressional midterm elections in which Democrats secured overwhelming victories, prompting discussion within the Trump administration about the political consequences of the Iran war.

In a post on X following the elections, Vance identified public opposition to the conflict as one of the principal factors contributing to Republican defeats.

President Donald Trump also acknowledged that the war might have influenced the election results but defended his decision to launch military operations against Iran.

Speaking to reporters, Trump maintained that preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons justified the campaign and said he did not regret his decision.

Vance’s support for continued Qatari mediation comes as Washington and Tehran consider possible arrangements addressing both the nuclear dispute and the broader conflict.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the proposals reportedly under review.
