Sara Netanyahu, Yair Golan Trade Lawsuit Threats Over October 7 Claims

Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, threatened Democrats party leader Yair Golan with a 1 million shekel lawsuit Tuesday as their dispute over her comments about his actions on October 7, 2023, escalated into mutual demands for apologies and legal action.  

Netanyahu’s attorney, Uriel Nizri, demanded that Golan and the Democrats apologize within 24 hours and remove posts about her. The letter also seeks a 100,000 shekel payment within 48 hours to the pre-military academy in Eli and an expression of regret over Golan’s alleged involvement in a March 2023 protest outside a Kikar Hamedina hair salon where Netanyahu was staying.  

The warning followed Golan’s threat of legal action over Netanyahu’s Channel 14 interview, in which she questioned how the retired major general and former deputy military chief of staff reached the Gaza border early on the morning of the Hamas attack.  

“You claim that you were a fighter on October 7. Early in the morning, you were already there, dressed and ready,” Netanyahu said, appearing to address Golan directly. “At a very early hour, when others knew nothing, including the prime minister.”  

Golan, who left his post that morning to help repel attackers and evacuate residents near the Gaza border, denied the suggestion. His party called Netanyahu’s remarks “vile and deceitful” and said they crossed “a red line.” Golan is preparing a defamation notice against Netanyahu and Channel 14, according to Ynetnews.  

Nizri rejected accusations that Netanyahu had promoted conspiracy theories, arguing that her comments were sarcastically directed at those who failed to inform the prime minister about what was happening.  

The dispute also revived the March 2023 hair salon incident. Netanyahu alleges that Golan “took an active, physical and direct part in that serious incident” when protesters surrounded the building. Her letter describes the protest as “a criminal and thuggish siege in every sense” and argues that Golan could face civil liability, including for false imprisonment.  

Former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, also a candidate for prime minister, criticized Netanyahu’s remarks, calling them a “crazy treason conspiracy theory” with “no factual basis.”
